Portland has had numerous bands come out of the woodwork seeking to make their own stake at music history and none is remembered as fondly as Agalloch. Transcending styles entirely, Agalloch often threw aside entire sections of a band that one may deem necessary to create an album. This album, almost entirely devoid of drums and vocals is a duet of the two founding musicians, John and Don creating their own brand of neofolk. Unlike any other album in their catalogue, this masterpiece showcases their writing talent, meticulously building a sonic painting with everything from synths to multiple layered acoustic and electric guitars and even incorporating horns and accordion at times. A must have for any folk lover, this album perfectly conveys the sounds of the pacific north west at it’s finest.
