1. Stygian I: From Tumultuous Heavens… (Descended Forth the Ceaseless Darkness)
2. Stygian II: In Ageless Slumber (As I Dream in the Doleful Embrace off the Howling Black Winds)
3. Stygian III: Perennial Voyage (Across the Perpetual Planes of Crying Frost & Steel-Eroding Blizzards)
Hailing from the vast and winter carved province of Québec, a band that has been in the composing phases for almost a decade, Atramentus, brainchild of the death metal houshold name Phil Tougas has finally dropped the collosal epitaph that is known as Stygian. Taking influence from contemporaries like Esoteric or Skepticism, Atramentus build on the funeralist sound by incorporating every single vocal style that one could possible imagine. Layered over the top of meticulously and artfully mixed band that includes multiple guitars (often more than three), a bass, an organ, synths, drums and backing ambience, this record plays as the theme to being swept out to the Ionian sea, thrust into the daggerlike water with the rest of the poor souls who did not have the ferryman’s toll. Easily one of the most dismal and bleak records that is painted with one of the most colorful palate of sounds, this tragic dirge will punish even the most cheerful listener.
