As if watching blood dry in a mortuary by candlelight, the genre of Funeral Doom is well known for it’s slow, gothic tones and songs that span well over 20 minutes. Thus is ever so true of Esoteric, one of the genre’s founders and leading bands. With a discography of 4 releases before The Maniacal Vale, the band has consistently shown it’s devotion to the art of crafting a sonic painting. This fifth effort spans nearly 2 hours, with each CD being over 50 minutes in length and hitting notes from epic, uplifting and jubilous to downtrodden, griefstricken and emotionally wounded. Each CD plays differently, but should be enjoyed together. Much like any epic, the journy is long, but the story is filled with harrowing turns and emotional sections that keep the listner engaged for not just the duration, but for an entire lifetime. This is what a timeless classic sounds like.
