With a reservoir of verses of the history surrounding Québec coupled with a massive presence and epic atmosphere, Forteresse have easily carved their way to the zenith of the black metal scene. Their second album, Les hivers de notre époque is a spacy composition of lengthy epics which sing about the nature and history of the province they call home. A much more placid release, the sophomoric album places the listener directly in the heart of winter in the founding years of Québec. Pitted against the harsh winteresque atmosphere, poignant screams, heart wrenching synths and voice overs, this raw album brings some of the most glacial tonalities found in black metal.
