Invoking themes of desolation, chaos and punishment, Misþyrming came onto the icelandic black metal scene in 2015 with Söngvar elds og óreiðu to which they followed up with their sophomoric effort, Algleymi. Taking an entirely new direction, the band steps away from the dissonant themes in Söngvar to strike with intense and uplifting tones which play like rock and roll on steroids. Not leaving time for the listener to catch themselves, this album punches them relentlessly and only offers the chance to breathe in the middle of the album with a short instrumental. A fantastic, though diametrically opposite followup, Misþyrming did what many bands hope to do with Algleymi: rewrite the formula from it’s basics and shatter all expectations.
