Iceland, because of it’s remote and intensely isolated nature is home to a very select and close circle of black metal musicians that make up the entirety of the underground scene there. Núll, also known by 0 or 〇, is a supergroup containing members from Carpe Noctem, Misþyrming, Naðra and Wormlust, which you can hear by the wide array of intense sounds that are present on this sophomoric record, Entity. With melodic, yet melancholic rhythm guitars continually droning on and on, the leads cascade over the top of them like fresh snow while the drums choose the emotional substance – from anger to pure desperation. The main drive behind this record is the wide range of vocals which have every sound from choir, chant and clean to pure agony, wails, shrieks and typical black metal screams. This brooding record is a very bleak release in this year, but it is a perfect soundtrack for the misanthrope or like minded isolationist, who searches for the most desolate sounds that they could possibly find.
