One of the bands that completely re-wrote the formula in the early days of black metal was Norway’s Obtained Enslavement. Throwing out many of the traditional ideas for soaring and often times glaringly loud keyboards and synths, choirs, orchestras and a sound that can barely be contained on a single piece of wax, Obtained Enslavement took forth crafting one of the most diverse records in the black metal genre. The ensuing hour of music takes you through the journey of a lifetime, and can only be described as attention grabbing as the listener will not be able to take their mind off this record while it spins. Although many bands are labeled as “Symphonic Black Metal”, few records come as close to Witchcraft in the realm of avant-garde and innovation.
