Throwing aside the norms and traipsing far into the obscure, Suffering Hour has returned with their sophomoric effort, The Cyclic Reckoning. Where In Passing Ascension left off is far gone behind, leaving no trace other than the foundations the band has built on. Trading in the searing tone for a more watery, bubbly and often shimmery guitar sound and a grinding, ax-like bass, the band dredge through new waters with their searing ferocity and edge like leads, all backed by the diverse vocals which can range anywhere from a scream, howl and bark to a demonic, Cthonic growl. Each progression change is perfectly transitioned to with the methodical and intricate drumming backing the carnage. Once again proving they are rewriting both the black metal and death metal genres, Suffering Hour is taking no prisoners and leaving the competition in the dust.
