Pushing the boundaries of black metal towards the esoteric, The Ruins of Beverast made major waves in the underground with 2017’s Exuvia. Otherwise known for being the forerunner of the black metal band Nagelfar, Alexander von Meilenwald began the Ruins of Beverast shortly after the demise of the afforementioned project. With the release of 2004’s Unlock the Shrine, he had cemented himself into the scene as a one man project that was bending the expectations of black metal. Very wide guitars with droning leads and punishing vocals would become the motif for several albums to come. This repress showcases the album perfectly. This monolith, which is well over an hour long and contains heavy synths, samples and various styles of riffs will captivate you and take you down the dark journey of the Ruins of Beverast’s first offering.
