Although doom metal had been around for quite some time, Thergothon took it upon themselves to release the first full length album in the genre that would later be called “Funeral Doom Metal”. Whilst Skepticism was founded around the same time and had a demo as well, Thergothon had been established for just a while longer and released a full length effort just barely before them. This ensuing album, a monolith over an hour long of punishingly slow, miserable chords defines the genre in it’s entirety. Clean vocals sung ever so slightly out of key hang in the background while gutteral moans and gurgles take to the front and the piercing bass and guitars push forth alongside the massive keys creating a wall of noise woeful and ecclectic. Not for the fait of heart, this album will drag you down to it’s dark corner and keep you there for the entire duration.
